How stock CFD trading works.
A share CFD tracks the price of a company’s stock. You decide how many shares to trade and whether you expect the price to rise (buy) or fall (sell).
You don’t own the shares or get voting rights, but long positions receive dividend adjustments, and corporate actions such as splits are reflected in your position.

- A contract on the price of one share, settled in cash.
- Ex-dividend date
- The date from which a dividend adjustment is applied to open positions.
- Earnings
- Quarterly results that often cause large price moves.
- Gap
- A jump in price between one session’s close and the next open.

On the ex-dividend date, long positions are credited and short positions are debited with an amount equal to the dividend per share.
Share CFDs trade during the regular hours of their home exchange. US shares trade 14:30–21:00 GMT (13:30–20:00 during US daylight saving time).
We adjust open positions to reflect splits, reverse splits and similar events, so the value of your position is not affected by the action itself.
